Recently, infertility is becoming very common among married couples. The reasons can be different and many of them can be successfully treated. There are cases of infertile marriage when both sexual partners are healthy, but pregnancy does not occur. Often this is due to their immunological incompatibility.
In the body, the immune system is aimed at combating foreign protein compounds and infectious agents. Considering that male germ cells are foreign to the body, the correct immune responses to them are very important. Immune system of a healthy woman does not form aggression against sperm.
Immunological incompatibility of spouses is manifested in the fact that the female body produces antibodies that suppress sperm motility and their ability to fertilize an egg, causing sperm to stick together. Also, the cause of infertility may be a woman’s allergy to sperm. Moreover, such a reaction of the body is specific to the sperm of a particular man, the other partner can be normally accepted by the body. Therefore, this type of infertility is considered specifically as a paired option, and not a diagnosis of each of their partners separately.
There is several diagnostic methods immunological incompatibility. If the couple has no other reasons of infertility, then analyzis and special tests are used. The simplest is the test contact, when mucus taken from the cervical canal during the ovulatory period is examined under a microscope, into which the husband’s sperm is injected. If sperm is active in cervical mucus, this indicates immunological compatibility.
Another test method is a blood test. With its help, you can not only determine the presence of antibodies to the husband’s sperm, but also make a quantitative assessment of their concentration.
Incompatibility of partners can be combined with any other form of infertility, therefore the study of compatibility is included in the comprehensive examination of infertile couples.
